If you have a passion for vintage clothes please stand up! And please stand up if you don’t like to spend millions on clothes that could become accessible: you just have to know how to do it! If you feel you are part of these categories you are reading the right article: you will love these 5 second hand shops where you can find vintage bargains in Milan.
The only pieces I am willing to spend more on are accessories: for example, a Stella McCartney bag is worth some splurging. And a Zagliani clutch too. And a Prada wallet (shall I go on?).
But I don’t go crazy about clothes shopping. Or better, I realized it is very difficult for me to consider a piece of clothing “forever”. I go crazy for the fast fashion chains (Amancio Ortega are yuo reading this?) or I go to one of these second hand boutiques: class and savings are guaranteed.
The ladies in Conciliazione know it well: at Give and Take they sell real gems. The formula is simple. Who wants to find great brands and small prices comes here. And those who are tired of their clothes or shoes come knocking at the same door. They bring them here and Laura and Poppi – the two owners of the shop in Via Alberto da Giussano – choose them, take them on consignment and exhibit them in the shop. That’s how you fill the shelves at this luxury second-hand shop: every piece is carefully selected and in good conditions. Here I bought the parka I’ve been wearing the whole winter and here I bought several dresses for weddings, ceremonies and birthday parties. “Give and take”: honestly, I’ve taken more than what I have given here!
GIVE AND TAKE. Via Alberto da Giussano, 20. +39 02 36632863. Open from Monday to Saturday from 10:00 to 13:00 and from 14:00 to 19:00.
I’ve been going to Girotondo – both in the historic one in Via Dugnani and in the new one in Viale Coni Zugna – for the last ten years, so I know what I’m talking about: here is where my entrepreneurial vision of shopping takes place. I bring all the clothes I am tired of and with the money I earn I buy new ones. It is thanks to this shop in front of Park Solari that I can show off my Sergio Rossi boots and a different Add jacket every winter. I want to reassure every woman about the cleanliness: the clothes (and the shoes!) are almost all brand new, in some cases still with the tag on and the box. Women know that shopping is like a competition you run against everybody so you take advantage of the wrong purchases of somebody else who runs to this shop to get their money back. I could buy everything!
IL GIROTONDO. Via Dugnani, 6 and Viale Coni Zugna, 19. +39 02 437293 or +39 02 94394292. Open from Monday to Saturday from 10:00 to 13:00 and from 15:00 to 19:00 (Thursday and Tuesday open all day). For picking up the goods check the website or call the shop.
Bivio Milano is a lot more hipster and their philosophy is “Keep only what you love, bring only what you think will be loved by somebody else”. Second hand shopping here is dedicated to both women and men with pieces that are bizarre: besides the great classic brands like Prada, Jimmy Choo or Bottega Veneta, a lot of space is given to brands that are less mainstream like Msgm and Alexander Wang for big hoodies, in addition to crazy fake furs and Steve Madden leopard wedges. Are you ready for some second hand shopping just behind Colonne di San Lorenzo?
BIVIO MILANO. Via Gian Giacomo Mora, 4. +39 02 58108691. Open from Tuesday to Sunday from 11:00 to 19:30. For picking up the goods from Tuesday to Sunday(12:00/17:30) no appointment requested.
In via Brivio, in addition to the other shop in via Brera, there is also Cavalli e Nastri, popular name in Milanese vintage shopping, for which it was a pioneer in this field. What I love the most about this shop is the atmosphere, along with the attention to detail. Here we are face to face with vintage more than second hand and it happens that you encounter some real collection pieces, Chanel jewellery, Hermès scarfs and Borsalino models from the 50’s. In addition to clothings and accessories, tey also sell laces, crochets and modern pieces of furniture. Every time I go there I feel like I am in the Coco avant Chanel movie!
CAVALLI E NASTRI. Via Brera, 2 (+39 02 72000449), Via Gian Giacomo Mora, 3 (+39 02 49451174) and Via Gian Giacomo Mora, 12 (+39 02 89409452). Open on Monday (14:30/19.30) and from Tuesday to Saturday (10:30/19:30).
The different Mercatino Michela were born almost thirty years ago in honour of vanity and elegance: shopping at affordable prices is normal here! In this case the shopping destinations are three and one of them is in the luxury shopping address of Via Della Spiga. If ladies fall in love in this location, it is men’s turn in the shop of Via Corridoni, in addition to womens and kidswear (with a corner dedicated to home decor), while Viale Regina Giovanna is home to sportwear. Choose one and I am sure the other two will follow fast!
MERCATINO MICHELA Address: Via Della Spiga, 33 (+39 02 782372), Via Corridoni, 5 (+39 02 76003205) and Viale Regina Giovanna, 8 (+39 02 2046778).
