I am the biggest fan of Asian dishes, you probably got it by now with my Korean, Chinese and Japanese choices. Noodles are no exception. I still remember when, during my Erasmus year in Belgium, I bought a wok pan because I wanted to make these delicious spaghetti at home. I guess the guys at Italian noodles have the same passion. They brought Asian noodles to via Vigevano, in Porta Genova, revisiting them in an Italian way. Find your place among the few seats at the eatery and choose your combination: you will have what in my opinion are some of the best noodles in Milan!
Don’t get scared: there are many many options but you will find what suits your taste better. Start with choosing the type of pasta or noodles: there are udons (Japanese wheat noodles), thai noodles (rice noodles), sobas (buckwheat noodles), Asian noodles (wheat fettuccine) and also other types of noodles that are closer to Italian traditions as the squid ink tagliolini and egg tagliolini.
Order a “ready-made” recipe or choose between about ten different adders: there are rasins and Chinese cabbage, chicken and marinated salmon, eggplant and nori seaweed.
On my last visit I got tempted by the Zengy (Asian noodles in hot sauce with marinated salmon slices and raisins, pine nuts and nori seaweed) and by the Bill (udon in balsamic sauce with marinated beef slices, sautéed eggplant with raw celery and olives).
For those who would like something different, or don’t like noodles, there are makis, soups and ramen which a very good – but the best dishes are still the noodles.
Although it is very small, Italian Noodles is fairly pleasant (if you are fine with sitting on the stools). You can have a direct look at the kitchen and the cooks and maybe try to capture some cooking secrets. Enjoy some noodles after a shopping session in Porta Genova. The clientele is quite varied: employees on a lunch break, students strolling the Navigli or couples before the cinema or a drink at Mercato Metropolitano.
The place is very tiny: try getting there before rush hour, also because (unfortunately) they don’t accept reservations. Or do as I do, with a too often empty fridge, I have my noodles delivered at home. In this case, just to feel like Miranda of Sex&TheCity, I choose Hello Food: super fast delivery and a good price and I am ready for a dinner on my couch!
A very generous portion of noodles with a drink is about 7/10 euros. A very cheap dinner, but also a very good and tasty one that I suggest for an ‘easy’ night out or as a snack to share before the cinema or an actual dinner.
