If you are in Milan’s Colonne di San Lorenzo area and you are craving some sushi, you can find it at Kisen, in Via Gian Giacomo Mora, very close to one of my favorite second hand shops and to many other pretty stores. I went there for dinner and I loved it: the place is pretty, service is kind and the dishes are very well made. Here is how food was!
The menu at Kisen is rather long and there are dishes for all likings: starting from salads (the Kisen salad is delicious!) and tartares. We kicked off with tartares by ordering one with raw shrimps, scallops, white fish and avocado (the house specialty) and one with seabass and ponzu sauce. They were both delicious and abundant!
We continued with the carpaccio and seared fish and we got some seared tuna and an exquisite salmon carpaccio with yuzu, both with a side of delicious wakame goma.
And we finished with some rolls, of course: delicious house rolls and great tiger rolls!
We could have gone on forever, considering the fact that the menu is amazingly creative: next time we will try the gunkans, the soups and teriyaki!
Kisen is located in a strategic area, very close to Colonne di San Lorenzo, which is an area that lacks of sushi restaurants of a certain ‘level’. You could plan a shopping afternoon: at a stone’s throw from Via Mora you can find one of my favorite jewelry shops, and Bivio, a fantastic second hand shop! To avoid stressing out, since parking in this area can get tricky, use public transport: trams (2, 3, and 14), bus (94) or the metro (green metro stop Sant’Ambrogio)!
Generally speaking, both dining rooms at Kisen are nice. Well, the tables are still quite close to one another, but the atmosphere (that I would light up more) is overall pleasant. I strongly suggest to make a reservation because it usually packed!
Although it is one of my favorite sushi restaurants in the city (you can find my list here!), Kisen is a great central spot to keep in mind, also thanks to its good quality/price ratio. For a dinner with some wine you won’t spend more than 40 euros, a price you often pay for way less in the city!
