A hostel that can be an ideal place for a brunch or an aperitivo too, and for very cheap ones in both cases. Discover Madama Hostel&Bistrot, in Piazzale Lodi area, a hostel and a restaurant that we tried at a Sunday brunch. We liked it so much that we tell you how it is!
On weekends Madama Hostel&Bistrot offers a brunch formula: a dish of your choice, coffee, fruit juice and honey or nutella pancakes and homemade desserts. The menu varies often and they try to match different preferences and tastes; on the menu you can find the ‘English breakfast‘ with beaten eggs and sausage, but also classics such as burgers with roasted potatoes or Frech toast with grilled courgettes. The restaurant also offers vegetarian choices with vegetables and cheese. We tried the chickpea balls with potato salad, cabbage, bruschetta and tzatziki and the ‘insalata del latitante’ (the salad of the fugitive) with bread croutons, feta cheese and watermelon.
We finished our brunch with a piece of an excellent homemade lemon tart. Generally speaking, food is very simple here and the dishes are fresh and delicious, perfect for a date with friends.
You can try Madama Hostel&Bistrot in the evening too, first for an aperitivo – from 6pm – then for one of the many events (concerts, exhibitions or theater plays) of the Ohibò association that is located at the hostel. Ohibò organizes also day activities, such as English, music, massage courses or tango lessons!
And if you would like to stay at Madama Hostel&Bistrot you can choose between shared dorms or private rooms (double, triple or family ones). Each room has an internal bathrom, a/c and there are also other services, among which a free Turkish bath, free wi-fi (also available at the bistrot), bike renting and baby-sitting.
Madama Hostel&Bistrot, a venue that was once a police station, is now decorated in a funny and basic style, with recycled materials, such as the ladders used as shelves for mugs, cups and bottles. The interior is very bright, thanks to the many art nouveau windows and the low light fixtures, and very colourful thanks to the big paintings that are hung here and there. The place itself has a very vibrant, young and cosmopolitan atmosphere, typical of a hostel.
The place is located in Via Benaco, close to Piazzale Lodi. You can reach Madama Hostel&Bistrot both by car (strangely enough finding a parking won’t be a problem) or by public transport: with the yellow metro line (Lodi stop) or by tram 16 (Piazza Salgari stop).
Madama Hostel&Bistrot is very cheap, especially if compared to Milan standards: matter of fact the brunch costs 10 euros, whereas the aperitivo with the buffet is 7 euros.
For what concerns the room, the typical hostel shared rooms cost 29 euros/night, while the private rooms prices start from 79 euros.
