Imagine a courtyard in Milan just behind Park Solari. Imagine one of the most visionary Italian designers. Imagine his taste and move it into an ex-workshop disguised in showroom, concept store, gallery, bookshop, bar and, as I like to call it, a meditation place.
Nonostante Marras is this and much more, the Milanese store of Antonio Marras, designer from Sardinia who doesn’t need further introduction. Far from Milan’s movida, this place is meant to be a store and a meeting point. Meeting here, between jewels, dresses and a dreamy courtyard is a tradition for people from Milan looking for creativity and understatements.
Let’s not beat around the bush, the highlight at Nonostante Marras is the atmosphere. In a fairytale interior you can shop for clothes and accessories by Marras, but also flowers, books and art works.
You can also taste some Sardinian sweets while resting on the outside sofas. In summertime – and especially during Fuorisalone week – the courtyard is a place of popping colours and different parfumes: enjoying an aperitivo here is a pleasure for the eyes too!
It is not easy to find some trees and flowers in Milan: here you can feel miles away from the city!
If you don’t know about it, you don’t just bump into it. To enter Antonio Marras’ world you have to enter the courtyard of a building in via Cola di Rienzo, behind Park Solari. A calm residential area, among my favourites in Milan. Here you can also find another beautiful courtyard, the one at Al Fresco.
The word ‘magic’ is nowadays overrated, so much it has possibly lost its original meaning. But for a place like this I can’t help but using it: magic.
It is silent, cozy and taken care of down to the smallest detail. Shopping here, between flaked walls, vintage furniture and couches makes you feel at home…and what a home!
The cost of clothes and other items varies a lot: consider that you can find haute couture by Marras close to everyday pieces. It doesn’t matter if you are in the mood for shopping or not: a visit to this atelier is well worth it!
