Ah, a fish shop with a restaurant! One of our favourite restaurant concepts, which also appears to be increasingly popular, is this cross between point of sale and restaurant. We tried Pescetto a while ago, and this time we decided to try I Pesciolini at the corso di Porta Romana location (there is also one along Ripa di Porta Ticinese). This restaurant, which has been around for a while now and that was recently updated with some renovations, is open for lunch and for dinner, but it’s also perfect for an aperitivo. Here’s how it went!
The protagonist of this rich menu is no other than fish, and there’s pretty much every variety you can imagine. Those who love raw fish can indulge in tartare, carpaccio and any kind of seafood. Those who prefer cooked options can choose from the salads and marinades, but also from the selection of first and second courses that vary according to the catch of the day to ensure quality and freshness. And if you’re still undecided, there are also numerous tasting dishes.
We chose a few classics: tagliatelle with clams, mezze penne pasta with shrimp and zucchini and octopus with potatoes. The portions aren’t abundant, but definitely satisfying: the fish is super fresh and delicious! Being unable to resist a taste of some raw seafood, we ordered two oysters: they were excellent!
Corso di Porta Romana being right in the center of Milan, it is well serviced by pubic transportation: it’s close to the Crocetta metro stop on the yellow line, but also accessible by tram (lines 16 and 24). We suggest you take advantage of this as there aren’t many places to park in the area!
At I Pesciolini you’ll find a kitchen with a view, and you’ll be able to see the preparation of your dish from start to finish. The inside isn’t very big and counts only about 10 small tables. The atmosphere is minimal and plays on tones of black and white, with hints of colours thanks to the little fish on the walls and the plates! You can even find a few tables outdoors, even though the outside area isn’t the nicest. In general, I Pesciolini is a great place for an aperitivo or a quick, non pretentious dinner!
THE BILL: around 15 euros a plate
The prices aren’t super budget friendly, but proportionate enough to the quality of the fish and the central location of the restaurant! Almost every dish is priced at around 15 euros with a few exceptions and for dinner you’re looking at around 30 euros. For those of you who are lazier, I Pesciolini also offers home delivery!
