Cafè, restaurant, bar, store. That’s how they define themselves at Taglio, but they are even more than this. Since Taglio opened, less than two years ago, it has become my beloved place in the city. At any time of the day. Their opening hours allow you to have breakfast here and also drink a cocktail after dinner. You can come for lunch, dinner or an afternoon break. You can stay at the bar, take a seat at a table or just come by to buy some delicacy that is displayed on the shelves. Milan really needed a place like Taglio, close to the Navigli and Porta Genova.
At breakfast time you can enjoy the croissants, the coffee, the teas and the freshly squeezed orange juice. It gets busier at brunch when you can’t miss the eggs benedict for any reason in the world: I can’t find the proper words to describe them, although I have eaten them many times. They are always incredible, perfectly boiled and very tasty!
The lunch and dinner menu varies according to the season. In the moment I am writing this, there are risotto alla milanese, ravioli with turnip tops, soft roast and other specialties on the menu. There are several vegetarian options and desserts are amazing.
And for the after dinner, as I have already told you, Taglio is one of my favourites for a good cocktail. I usually go for a mix of gin, lime, tabasco and elderflower or for a spritz.
Taglio is located in Via Vigevano, one of my favourite streets in the area and in the whole city, both for eating out and shopping. Pick a sunny day, have a walk along the beautiful Darsena and then relax at Taglio!
In addition to being tasty, Taglio is pretty too. Atmosphere is informal but welcoming, with a ‘bistro’ feel to it, tables are set to an appropriate distance from eachother and although it is always packed there is never too much chaos. Staff are kind and competent and if you make a reservation, which I strongly suggest, you will be able to peek in the kitchen if you are in the second room!
At lunch and dinner you should do fine with the usual Milanese 30 euros. The single dishes are not cheap, but portions are quite generous. Quality is great and the presence of the chef is felt throughout: to me this is a place you will never get tired of!
