Eating Outdoors in Milan: 10 Beautiful Restaurants with Gardens
The temperatures are rising and, with this warm weather, everyone is looking for a nice place to dine outside in Milan and enjoy the nice weather. We put together our 10 favourite places for an outdoor lunch or dinner under the stars! Curious? Here is our classification!
Al Fresco (which we already told you about here) – perhaps for the wonderful arbor covered in wisteria, for the spacious garden or for the simple menu, which is genuine and super curated – is one of our favourite restaurants in the spring and summer! If you’re looking for a restaurant for lunch or a special dinner with a view on the garden and are willing to spend a little more than usual, Al Fresco is the place for you!
AL FRESCO. Via Savona 50, Milan, +39 02 49533630. Open at lunch (12:30pm-3:30pm) and at dinner (7:30pm-12:30am) from Tuesday to Sunday.
Canteen, for its magical atmosphere and Mexican food, is one of the most “in” spots at the moment. We suggest you try it for an aperitivo or for dinner in the outside area, immersed in the rich vegetation… between tequila, tacos, guacamole and the vertical garden, you will certainly find yourself under the spell of this charming locale!
CANTEEN.Via Archimede 10, Milan. +39 02 5463732. Open everyday from 6:00pm to 2:00am.
UN POSTO A MILANO
Un posto a Milano is the resto-bar at Cascina Cuccagna, a charming place that dates back to the 1600’s in the heart of Porta Romana, one of the favourite meeting places of people from Milan. In this part of the city that reminds one of vast open fields, you can enjoy breakfast, lunch, an aperitivo and even dinner. On the menu you’ll find dishes to satisfy all tastes and the ingredients are primarily local! The service isn’t the absolute best and the prices are a bit high, but it’ll be more than worth it for the stunning setting!
CASCINA CUCCAGNA. Via Cuccagna 2/4, corner of via Muratori, Milan. Open Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00pm to 1:00am.
Erba Brusca is the “restaurant with a vegetable garden” we already told you about here, located along the Naviglio Pavese. We suggest you enjoy dinner in the veranda – perhaps on a Wednesday, when they play live music and when the atmosphere is truly wonderful – or for Sunday brunch!
ERBA BRUSCA. Alzaia Naviglio Pavese 286, Milan, +39 02 87380711. Open from Wednesday to Sunday at lunchtime (12:30pm-2:30pm) and dinner (8:00pm-11:00pm).
MARE CULTURALE URBANO
Like Un Posto a Milano, this place too is located inside a renovated farmhouse, the Cascina Torrette. We suggest you stop by for an aperitivo with beer and meat platters to share, but in case that isn’t enough to satisfy your hunger, the menu also offers many different options. A few examples? The tomato soup with stracciatella and basil, salmon nuggets, grilled meat and… well, we can’t tell you everything! Try it and see for yourself!
MARE CULTURALE URBANO. Via Gabetti 15, Milan, +39 02 89058306. Open everyday from 8:00pm to 2:00am.
If you’re looking for a place for aperitivo or after dinner in the Bocconi area, we suggest Al Cortile. Here, among wood tables, flowers, little lights and a relaxing atmosphere, you can enjoy excellent cocktails and a few little bites! This place is also open for dinner, with many special dishes on the menu!
AL CORTILE. Via Giovenale 7, Milan, +39 02 89093079. Open Tuesday through Saturday at 7:00pm.
Traditional Milanese dishes, a menu written in dialect, a rustic atmosphere -yet also romantic – and tables in the veranda. Where? At Al Garghet, located slightly outside the city center towards the South part of Milan. On the menu, aside from the classic offerings (risottos, Milanese veal, trippa and ossobuco), you’ll also find fresh and vegetarian options, like the avocado gazpacho or the millet and almond meatballs.
AL GARGHET. Via Selvanesco 36, Milan. +39 02 534698. Open Tuesday through Saturday (from 7:30pm to 10:30pm) and Sunday from from 12:00pm to 2:00pm and form 7:30pm to 10:30pm.
Shambala is one of the most loved Asian restaurants by people in Milan, both for the food (thai-vietnamese) than for the romantic setting. We recommend Shambala for a dinner in the zen garden, surrounded by big trees and bamboo, perhaps with a view of your other half!
SHAMBALA. Via Ripamonti 337, Milan. +39 02 5520194. Open Monday to Saturday (7:30pm-2:00am), Saturday and Sunday for brunch at noon.
RISTORANTE LA BRISA
At La Brisa, located behind Piazza Affari, you’ll find a charming garden in the building’s inner courtyard, and simple and seasonal dishes comprised mainly of meat and fish, but the menu also includes some vegetarian options. A few example of these dishes are the smoked sarde with red chicory, the tagliatelle with boar sauce and mint, Marsala-style pigeon and the bulgur with vegetables and legumes!
RISTORANTE LA BRISA. Via Brisa, 15 20123 Milan, +39 02 8645 0521. Open Monday through Friday (12:45pm-2:30pm and 7:45pm-10:30pm). Closed Sunday for lunch.
SPIRIT DE MILAN
This locale, built in a former crystal factory in the Bovisa area, is one of our favourite places to listen to live music in the city. We recommend Spirit de Milan not only for musical nights, (between swing, tango and jazz, there’s something for every taste!) and the dance classes, but also for an aperitivo or a casual dinner in a delicious 50’s-style atmosphere!
SPIRIT DE MILAN. Via Bovisasca 57/59, Milan. +39 3667215569. Open Tuesday through Sunday, from 7:30pm to midnight.
How many ideas have we given you? The list of places to dine outside does not end here! Any examples? There’s the new LùBar at the Gam, Trattoria Aurora, the Vista Darsena and Ratanà. In addition, there are the beautiful rooftop terraces (better for an aperitivo than for lunch or dinner) or these places for a cocktail or a glass of wine
